Day 53 - Grandpa's Snuff Box

This picture has a lot of meaning to me. I tried several times on different days to get the picture just so, and I'm still not sure I am doing it justice. In the end, I have two different versions of the same picture. I thought that this Photoshop technique fit the picture well.

This is a snuff box that was given to me on my wedding day by my mother. It has a long family history and is always passed down to the daughters in the family. Along with the box, comes this note, written by my Great Grandma, who passed away in 2004 when she was 103 years old.

Grandfather's Snuff Box

I am 87, so the box must be 100 years old. Grandfather bought it for 2 pence from an old man he knew, in the workhouse of those days. He told grandpa he had carved it so beautifully with an old penknife and put the initials E.T. (Edmond Tiller) on the lid. My mother had it and I have had it 50 years or more.

Now I pass Grandpa's Snuff Box on to his great, great granddaughter Brenda.

I am now giving this Snuff Box to Janet in May, 1988

I am now passing Grandpa's Snuff Box on to Laura on her wedding day, August 17, 2002. You are his great, great, great, great granddaughter.

An old keepsake from England, with lots of love.

I look forward to being able to pass this along to one of my own daughters. It is one of my most treasured possessions.

What a beautiful story, and a really nice photo. I like the lighting...I imagine how tough that was to get just right.
